- 1 cup whole yellow peas
- 1/2 cup barley
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 onion, diced
- 2 carrots, sliced
- 2 celery stalks, chopped
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 4 cups beef broth
- 2 cups water
- 2 bay leaves
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- Salt and pepper, to taste
