ingredients
- 2 tablespoons cooking oil (vegetable, peanut, corn, or soybean)
- 2 cups hot water
steps
- 1.
Initial Cleaning: Prior to the first use, fill your wok 1/2 to 2/3 full with water and bring it to a boil for 5-7 minutes. Carefully pour out the hot water, scrub both inside and out with hot soapy water and a stiff scouring pad. Rinse thoroughly and dry completely.
- 2.
Initial Seasoning: Rub 2 tablespoons of cooking oil over the entire surface of the wok. Heat over medium for approximately 10 minutes, using a paper towel to evenly distribute the oil as it warms. Make sure to heat the sides as well. Caution: handle with care! Allow to cool, then repeat this process 3-4 times for a well-seasoned wok.
- 3.
Basic Care: After each use, clean using only hot water (avoid soap) and dry completely. For food residues, a scouring pad with hot water will suffice. Before storing, apply a thin layer of cooking oil to prevent rust. If soap is used by mistake, re-season the wok. Should rust appear, scour it off and re-season.
