Caramelized Apple Tart

Caramelized Apple Tart
ingredients
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- ½ cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 8 oz Brie cheese, sliced
- 3 large apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- ¼ cup maple syrup
- Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)
steps
- 1.
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9-inch tart pan.
- 2.
In a food processor, pulse the flour, granulated sugar, and salt until combined. Add the cold cubed butter and pulse until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- 3.
Transfer the mixture to a mixing bowl and gradually add the beaten egg while stirring with a fork until the dough comes together.
- 4.
Press the dough onto the bottom and up the sides of the tart pan, evenly distributing it to form a crust. Prick the bottom with a fork and bake for 15 minutes or until lightly golden.
- 5.
Remove the tart crust from the oven and let it cool slightly.
- 6.
Arrange the Brie cheese slices evenly over the crust.
- 7.
In a skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Add the apple slices and brown sugar, and cook until the apples are soft and lightly caramelized, about 10 minutes.
- 8.
Spoon the caramelized apples onto the Brie cheese in an even layer. Drizzle the maple syrup over the top.
- 9.
Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- 10.
Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. If desired, dust the tart with powdered sugar for an extra touch of sweetness before serving.
