Four Cheese Strata
ingredients
- 1 medium white onion, sliced
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 cups sliced mushrooms
- 1 teaspoon dried marjoram
- 1 teaspoon minced garlic
- 6 slices crusty bread, cubed
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese
- 1/2 cup crumbled goat cheese
- 6 large eggs, lightly beaten
- 1-1/2 cups whole milk
- 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 4 slices provolone cheese

Spray a square baking dish with non-stick cooking spray and set aside.

In a skillet over medium heat, sauté sliced onions in olive oil for about 10 minutes until softened.

Add the sliced mushrooms and dried marjoram; sauté until tender, around 5 minutes.

Stir in minced garlic and cook until fragrant, roughly 1 minute longer.

Arrange half of the bread cubes in the bottom of the prepared baking dish.

Spread the sautéed onion and mushroom mixture over the bread layer.
- 7.
In a bowl, mix the cheddar, mozzarella, parmesan, and goat cheese, then sprinkle over the mushroom mixture.

Top with the remaining bread cubes.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, Dijon mustard, salt, and black pepper; pour this mixture evenly over the bread.

Lay the provolone cheese slices on top.

Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight to let flavors combine.

Uncover the next day and bake in a preheated 350°F oven for 50-60 minutes, until set and golden.
