Indulge in a rich, decadent black cake with a French twist. Moist layers of chocolate sponge infused with espresso, topped with silky ganache and adorned with delicate macarons.
ingredients
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups sugar
- 3/4 cup cocoa powder
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup brewed espresso
- 8 oz dark chocolate
- 1 cup heavy cream
- Assorted macarons for garnish

Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.

Add milk, oil, eggs, and vanilla. Beat until smooth. Stir in espresso.

Divide batter evenly into prepared pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes.

Cool cakes in pans for 10 minutes, then remove and cool completely.

For ganache, heat cream until steaming. Pour over chopped chocolate. Stir until smooth.
- 7.
Place one cake layer on a plate. Spread ganache. Top with second layer.
- 8.
Frost cake with remaining ganache. Decorate with macarons.
