Smoky and succulent chicken wings, coated in a sweet and tangy BBQ sauce with a hint of honey, perfectly smoked to perfection. These wings will be the highlight of your summer BBQ!
ingredients
- 2 lbs chicken wings
- 1 cup BBQ sauce
- ¼ cup honey
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
- 2 teaspoons paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- Wood chips for smoking (hickory or applewood recommended)
steps
- 1.
Preheat your smoker to 225°F (107°C)
- 2.
In a bowl, combine the BBQ sauce, honey, soy sauce, apple cider vinegar, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.
- 3.
Place the chicken wings in a large resealable bag and pour in HALF of the BBQ sauce mixture. Seal the bag and toss to coat the wings evenly. Let them marinate in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
- 4.
Place the chicken wings on the smoker rack, ensuring they are spaced out.
- 5.
Close the smoker and cook the wings for approximately 2 hours (start checking at about the one hour mark), or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
- 6.
Every 20 minutes, baste the wings with the remaining BBQ sauce mixture using a brush, ensuring they are evenly coated.
- 7.
Once the wings are cooked and nicely smoked, increase the temperature and cook until crispy (5-10 minutes). Remove them from the smoker and let them rest for a few minutes.
- 8.
Serve the Honey Smoked BBQ Chicken Wings with your favorite sides, such as coleslaw or cornbread, and enjoy!
