- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 onion, diced
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 cup red wine
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- Fresh parsley, for garnish (optional)
steps
- 1.
In a small bowl, combine cocoa powder, cumin, smoked paprika, garlic powder, cinnamon, salt, and black pepper.
- 2.
Coat the beef cubes with the cocoa and spice mixture, pressing gently to ensure a good adherence.
- 3.
In a large skillet or Dutch oven, heat olive oil over medium-high heat and brown the beef cubes in batches. Transfer browned beef to a plate.
- 4.
In the same skillet, add diced onion and minced garlic. Sauté until onions are translucent and fragrant.
- 5.
Add beef broth, red wine, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, and brown sugar to the skillet. Stir well to combine.
- 6.
Return the beef cubes to the skillet, cover, and simmer on low heat for 2.5-3 hours, or until the beef is tender and flavors have melded together.
- 7.
Serve the aromatic cocoa beef over a bed of fluffy mashed potatoes or rice. Garnish with fresh parsley, if desired.
