- 1 bottle (750 ml) dry red wine
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup honey or sugar
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 5 whole cloves
- 3 star anise
- 1 orange, sliced
- 1 lemon, sliced
- Optional: 1/4 cup brandy

In a medium saucepan, combine the dry red wine, water, and honey (or sugar).

Heat the mixture over medium-low heat, stirring until the honey dissolves. Do not let it boil.

Add the cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, star anise, sliced orange, and lemon to the pot.

Simmer gently for 20-30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld, stirring occasionally.

If desired, stir in the brandy before serving.

Remove from heat and strain the mixture to remove the spices and fruit slices.
