ingredients
- 12 ounces bucatini pasta
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 pound ground pork
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
steps
- 1.
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, egg, Parmesan cheese, half the garlic, oregano, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined, then form into 1.5-inch meatballs.
- 2.
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add meatballs and brown on all sides. Once cooked, remove from skillet and set aside.
- 3.
In the same skillet, add diced onion and remaining garlic. Sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.
- 4.
Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, and chopped basil. Bring to a simmer and let cook for 15 minutes.
- 5.
Return meatballs to the skillet, and simmer in the sauce for an additional 10 minutes.
- 6.
While the sauce and meatballs are simmering, cook bucatini pasta according to package directions until al dente. Drain.
- 7.
Toss cooked bucatini with the Bolognese sauce and meatballs, ensuring everything is well-coated. Serve hot with additional Parmesan and fresh basil if desired.
