ingredients
- 4 chicken thighs, boneless and skinless
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
- 1 tablespoon Chinese rice wine (or sherry)
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon five-spice powder
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 inch ginger, grated
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
steps
- 1.
In a bowl, combine soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice wine, honey, brown sugar, five-spice powder, garlic, ginger, and sesame oil to create the marinade.
- 2.
Place the chicken thighs in a resealable bag and pour the marinade over them. Seal and marinate in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight.
- 3.
Preheat your grill or oven to medium-high heat (about 375°F).
- 4.
Remove the chicken from the marinade, reserving the marinade for basting.
- 5.
Grill the chicken for about 6-7 minutes per side, basting with the reserved marinade until cooked through and slightly caramelized.
- 6.
For oven cooking, place the chicken on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 20-25 minutes, basting halfway through.
- 7.
Once cooked, allow the chicken to rest for 5 minutes, then slice and serve with rice or vegetables.
