ingredients
- 1/2 lb cube steak
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1/8 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1/2 large onion, sliced
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1/2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 cup celery, sliced
- 1/2 cup carrots, sliced
- 1/2 cup white rice
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup green beans, trimmed
steps
- 1.
Season the cube steak with salt and pepper, then dredge in flour, shaking off the excess.
- 2.
In a large skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium heat and brown the cube steak on both sides, about 4-5 minutes per side. Remove and set aside.
- 3.
In the same skillet, add sliced onions, celery, and carrots, sautéing until softened.
- 4.
Add minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
- 5.
Pour in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, stirring to combine.
- 6.
Return the cube steak to the skillet, cover, and simmer for 30-35 minutes until tender.
- 7.
While the steak simmers, rinse the white rice under cold water. Combine rice and water in a small pot.
- 8.
Bring to a boil, reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 18-20 minutes until rice is fluffy.
- 9.
Steam the green beans until tender, about 5-7 minutes.
- 10.
To serve, place the rice on a plate, top with the smothered cube steak and veggies, with green beans on the side.
