ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ⅔ cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 4-6 tablespoons ice water
- 6 medium-sized apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- ⅓ cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- ⅓ cup packed brown sugar
- ½ cup rolled oats
- ½ cup chopped walnuts
- ½ cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- Whipped cream or vanilla ice cream (optional, for serving)
steps
- 1.
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease six individual pie dishes.
- 2.
In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the cold butter and use a pastry cutter or your hands to mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- 3.
Gradually add the ice water, one tablespoon at a time, and mix until the dough comes together. Divide the dough into six equal portions and press each portion into a prepared pie dish, covering the bottom and sides.
- 4.
In a separate bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Toss until the apples are well coated.
- 5.
Spoon the apple mixture into each pie crust, filling them generously.
- 6.
In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, rolled oats, chopped walnuts, and cold butter. Use your fingers to mix until crumbly. Sprinkle the crumble mixture evenly over the apple filling.
- 7.
Bake the pies for about 30-35 minutes or until the crust is golden and the filling is bubbling. Let them cool slightly before serving.
- 8.
Serve warm with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream if desired.
