Chicken Fried Steak

Southern Style Sirloin Fried Steak
ingredients
- 1 lb top sirloin steak, 1/2 inch thick
- 1 cup all-purpose flour, divided
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 2 large eggs
- 1/4 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup vegetable oil, for frying
- 2 cups milk
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp cornstarch
- Fresh parsley, for garnish (optional)

Tenderize the top sirloin steak by pounding it with a meat mallet until slightly flattened.

In a large bowl, mix together 1 cup flour, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs and buttermilk.

Dip each piece of steak into the flour mixture, then into the egg mixture, and back into the flour for a good coating.

Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.

Fry each steak for 4-5 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through.

Remove and drain on paper towels.

In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.

Stir in the remaining flour to create a roux, cooking for 1-2 minutes.

Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring continuously until thickened.

Add more seasoning if desired, then serve the gravy over the fried steak.

Garnish with fresh parsley if using.
