- 1/2 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
- 1/4 tsp Chinese five-spice powder
- 2 tbsp cornstarch
- 2 tbsp cold water
- Sliced green onions (for garnish)
- Hot cooked rice (optional, for serving)
steps
- 1.
In a large pot, combine the rabbit pieces and water. Bring to a gentle boil, cover, and simmer for 30 minutes, or until the rabbit is tender.
- 2.
In a bowl, whisk together brown sugar, orange juice, soy sauce, ketchup, white vinegar, garlic, red pepper flakes, and Chinese five-spice powder. Set aside.
- 3.
Once the rabbit is cooked, remove it from the pot and set aside.
- 4.
Pour the sauce mixture into the pot, and let it simmer for 5-7 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
- 5.
In a separate small bowl, mix the cornstarch with cold water to create a slurry. Gradually add it to the sauce while stirring constantly until it thickens.
- 6.
Return the rabbit pieces to the pot, coating them with the sauce. Simmer for an additional 5 minutes.
- 7.
Serve the rabbit hot over cooked rice, and garnish with sliced green onions.
