ingredients
- 3 1/2 cups flour
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 pint sour cream
- 2 eggs
- 2 tablespoons caraway seeds (optional)
- 3/4 cup raisins
steps
- 1.
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a baking sheet.
- 2.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Stir thoroughly.
- 3.
In another bowl, whisk together the sour cream and eggs until smooth.
- 4.
Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring to form a soft dough.
- 5.
If using, fold in the caraway seeds and raisins until evenly distributed.
- 6.
Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and gently knead for just a minute or two until the dough comes together.
- 7.
Shape the dough into a round loaf and place it on the prepared baking sheet.
- 8.
Using a sharp knife, make a shallow cross on the top of the loaf to allow for even baking.
- 9.
Bake for 30 to 40 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
- 10.
Allow it to cool slightly before slicing and serving warm.
