- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup chopped pecans (toasted)
steps
- 1.
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch cake pan.
- 2.
In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat, swirling occasionally until it turns golden brown and smells nutty; set aside to cool slightly.
- 3.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the brown sugar, granulated sugar, and brown butter, stirring until well mixed.
- 4.
Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in vanilla extract.
- 5.
In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- 6.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture alternately with buttermilk, beginning and ending with the flour mixture.
- 7.
Fold in the toasted pecans until evenly distributed throughout the batter.
- 8.
Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.
- 9.
Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- 10.
Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
