ingredients
- 2 cups pomegranate juice
- 1 cup pomegranate purée
- 1 ½ cups honey
- 4 cups water
- 1 cup fresh mint leaves
- 1 packet mead yeast (or champagne yeast)
- 1 teaspoon yeast nutrient
- Optional: pomegranate seeds for garnish
steps
- 1.
In a large pot, combine the pomegranate juice, pomegranate purée, and honey. Heat gently over low to medium heat, stirring until the honey fully dissolves.
- 2.
Add water to the pot, stirring until well combined. Remove from heat and allow the mixture to cool to room temperature.
- 3.
While the mead mixture cools, rinse the fresh mint leaves and gently crush them to release their oils.
- 4.
Once cooled, add the crushed mint leaves to the mixture along with the yeast and yeast nutrient. Stir gently to combine.
- 5.
Pour the mixture into a sanitized fermentation vessel, leaving space at the top for bubbling. Seal it with an airlock.
- 6.
Allow the mead to ferment in a cool, dark place for 2 to 4 weeks, or until fermentation is complete (noticeable bubbling will stop).
- 7.
Once fermented, strain out the mint leaves and transfer the mead into clean bottles, leaving sediment behind.
- 8.
Optionally, add pomegranate seeds for a touch of elegance and serve chilled.
