Savory Ham and Mushroom Strata

- 1 cup finely chopped onion
- 10 oz mushrooms, sliced
- 8 oz boneless smoked ham, cubed
- 16 oz broccoli florets, steamed
- 8 slices sandwich bread, cubed
- 6 oz Fontina cheese, shredded (1 1/2 cups)
- 6 large eggs
- 3 cups whole milk
- 1/4 tsp pepper

Preheat oven to 350F. Lightly coat a shallow 3-qt baking dish with non-stick spray.

In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until tender.
