ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef (80% lean)
- 8 strips of bacon
- 4 burger buns
- 4 slices of smoked cheddar cheese
- 1 onion, sliced
- 4 leaves of lettuce
- 2 tomatoes, sliced
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 4 large potatoes
- Vegetable oil for frying
- ½ teaspoon paprika
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon dried thyme
- Ketchup and mayonnaise for serving
steps
- 1.
Preheat your grill to medium-high heat.
- 2.
Divide the ground beef into four equal portions and shape them into patties. Season generously with salt and black pepper.
- 3.
Cook the bacon until crispy in a large skillet over medium heat. Remove and set aside, leaving the rendered bacon fat in the skillet.
- 4.
In the same skillet, sauté the onion slices until golden and caramelized. Set aside.
- 5.
Grill the beef patties for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until desired doneness. During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of smoked cheddar cheese on each patty and allow it to melt.
- 6.
Meanwhile, prepare the French fries. Peel and cut the potatoes into thin strips. Soak them in cold water for 30 minutes, then drain and pat dry.
- 7.
Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C). Fry the potatoes in batches until golden brown and crispy. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- 8.
Season the fries with salt, paprika, garlic powder, and dried thyme while they are still hot.
- 9.
Assemble the burgers by placing a beef patty on each bun. Top with crispy bacon, caramelized onions, lettuce, and tomato slices. Serve with the seasoned French fries, ketchup, and mayonnaise.
