ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup fruit preserves (any flavor)
- 1 egg yolk, for egg wash
- 1 tablespoon water
steps
- 1.
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- 2.
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- 3.
In a large bowl, cream the softened butter until light and fluffy; then add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing well.
- 4.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until a dough forms.
- 5.
Divide the dough into two discs, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- 6.
On a floured surface, roll out one disc of dough to about 1/8-inch thickness.
- 7.
Cut 3-inch circles using a cookie cutter or glass.
- 8.
Place a teaspoon of your chosen fruit preserves in the center of each circle.
- 9.
Fold the edges of the circle toward each other to form a triangle, pinching the corners well to seal.
- 10.
Place the formed Hamantaschen on the prepared baking sheet.
- 11.
In a small bowl, whisk together the egg yolk and water; brush the mixture over each pastry for a golden finish.
- 12.
Bake for 20-25 minutes, until lightly golden. Cool on a wire rack before serving.
