ingredients
- 2 ½ pounds potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
- 1 ½ cups cooked ham, diced
- 1 ½ cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
- 1 cup sour cream
- ½ cup milk
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper, to taste
steps
- 1.
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
- 2.
In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the potato slices and cook for about 5 minutes, until slightly tender. Drain and set aside.
- 3.
In a medium-sized saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour until smooth, cooking for 1 minute.
- 4.
Gradually whisk in the milk and continue cooking until the mixture thickens, about 3 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in the sour cream, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- 5.
Arrange half of the sliced potatoes in the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle half of the ham and half of the cheddar cheese over the potatoes. Pour half of the sour cream mixture evenly over the top.
- 6.
Repeat the layering process using the remaining ingredients.
- 7.
Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake for an additional 20-25 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden and bubbly.
- 8.
Allow the bake to cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy the cheesy, comforting goodness!
