Smoky Shepherd's Pie

- 1 ½ pounds ground beef
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon cumin powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup frozen mixed vegetables
- ½ cup tomato sauce
- 1 cup beef broth
- 4 cups mashed potatoes
- ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese
- Fresh cilantro, for garnish

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.

Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook for 5 minutes until the onions are translucent.

Stir in the cumin, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Cook for an additional 2 minutes to toast the spices.

Add the frozen mixed vegetables, tomato sauce, and beef broth to the skillet. Simmer for 10 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.

Transfer the beef mixture to a greased 9x13-inch baking dish.

Spread the mashed potatoes evenly over the top.

Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the mashed potatoes.
