ingredients
- 4 cups potatoes, peeled and diced
- 1 lb German sausage, sliced
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves of garlic, minced
- 4 cups whole milk
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- Fresh parsley, for garnish
steps
- 1.
In a large pot, melt butter over medium heat. Add sausage and cook until browned. Remove cooked sausage and set aside.
- 2.
In the same pot, sauté onion until golden and translucent. Add garlic and cook for an additional minute.
- 3.
Sprinkle flour over the onion and garlic mixture, stirring well to combine. Cook for 2 minutes to remove the raw flour taste.
- 4.
Gradually pour in milk, whisking constantly to avoid lumps. Stir in diced potatoes, thyme, salt, and black pepper.
- 5.
Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for about 20 minutes until the potatoes are tender.
- 6.
Add back the cooked sausage and simmer for an extra 5 minutes to combine the flavors.
- 7.
Serve the chowder hot, garnished with fresh parsley.
